ARWC Gets Grant for Minnequa Dam Study
Pueblo, CO – The Arkansas River Watershed Collaborative (ARWC) has received funding from the Colorado Water Conservation Board’s (CWCB) Federal Technical Assistance Program to launch the Minnequa Diversion Dam Feasibility Study.
ARCC provided $5,000 in matching funds in fall 2024 as part of the ARWC grant application. This is in addition to a $15,000 recurring donation from ARCC to ARWC. The Arkansas River Outfitters Association (AROA) also contributed $10,000 to the grant application.
The Study will explore potential design solutions to enhance fish passage, improve river safety, and expand recreation on the Arkansas River.
This Dam is the last major barrier between Leadville and Pueblo Reservoir – more than 160 miles. It would effectively connect the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA) to Lake Pueblo State Park.
They are still in the early planning stages, but this is big news for the Upper Arkansas River.
